What is a carburettor heater? A Carburetor heater is usually an electrical heating element or component that heats the metal body of the carburetor. The purpose of the carburettor heater element is to stop icing occurring, particularly in cold climates and conditions. Carburetors can start to freeze even if the ambient temperature of the outside air is above freezing. This is because of the temperature drop caused by the fuel vaporization and the pressure drop inside the carburetor venturi.
